Bahco Laplander folding saw

Bahco Laplander folding saw

After seeing Ray Mears split wood using a Bahco Laplander, I decided to reconsider carrying a hatchet in my BOB, and try a folding saw instead. I’m sold on the idea. The weight difference is noticeable, as is the space difference. The Bahco Laplander is made in Sweden, has a replaceable 7 inch Sandvik steel blade and an incredibly slick non-stick coating. I’d read about how easily this knife glides through timber like a hot knife through butter, and it’s true, I was really surprised at just how well it works. The XT toothing on the Laplander means that it cuts on the push and pull stroke, which means you can cut twice as fast as a regular “one way” saw. When folded, the Bahco Laplander has no sharp edges, which is great for storing in your backpack or Bug Out Bag – it’s also surprisingly small at only 9.5 inches when closed. The Bahco Laplander is a total joy to use, and practically disappears in my Bug Out Bag – until the weekends when I take it out to work in the garden.
